THE WORKSHOP

My workshop has recently been renovated from a disused storage room. We lifted the old quarry tiles to insulate under them, we insulated all of the walls and re instated two windows which had been bricked in. Almost all of the furniture and lights have been repurposed or slowly accumulated over the years.

Painted a lovely dayroom yellow, it is bright and a joy to work in. Although as you can see I'm quickly running out of space.....

I am very lucky to know a very talented father and daughter duo who have set up Master the Art, conveniently just down the road from me. I really loved doing their paint finishes course especially the malachite and lapis lazuli techniques. I also did a gilding course with them which was also fascinating and quite complex. Roger is a supreme expert at his craft and it was amazing to learn from such a brilliant and patient teacher. I will be back for more of their courses in the future. In the mean time I have a lot of ideas to explore and practice to do.

The last phase of the workshop renovation is the beautiful door which leads out into the garden. It has been stripped of it's flaky black paint and now is a lovely soft green. There are still some elements of the woodwork that need to be replaced but I love it already, and so does Dotty.

Tools of the trade. Everything I need to paint the tables and frames with a malachite or lapis lazuli paint effect.
